This line functions as a colophon marking the close of a chapter within the teachings on dāna-dharma (the ethics of giving). By naming the chapter’s theme—“the origin of the umbrella and footwear”—it frames everyday protective items as part of a moral discourse on gifts, care, and social duty.
The text is concluding a chapter: it formally states the work (Mahābhārata), the larger book (Anuśāsana Parva), the internal section (Dāna-dharma Parva), and the chapter title and number (95th, ‘Chatra-upānah-utpatti’). It is a structural closing formula rather than a new spoken instruction.
