This line functions as a colophon marking the completion of a chapter on śrāddha-vidhi (the proper rules for ancestral rites) within the broader instruction on dāna-dharma, emphasizing that ritual duty toward ancestors is treated as an ethical-religious obligation within dharma.
The text signals the end of the eighty-seventh chapter of the Dāna-dharma section inside Anuśāsana Parva. Although attributed to Bhīṣma in the framing dialogue, this particular sentence is an editorial/sectional closing statement rather than a spoken instruction.
