This verse is a colophon marking the end of a chapter within the Dāna-dharma section, framing the preceding story as an instructive exemplum: narratives are presented as vehicles for dharma-teaching, here situated under the ethical domain of giving and right conduct.
The text signals closure: it announces that the episode called “Tāraka’s slaying” has concluded and identifies its placement—within the Anuśāsana Parva, in the Dāna-dharma subsection—as the eighty-sixth chapter.
