Nṛga-upākhyāna: Brāhmaṇa-sva and the Consequence of Misappropriated Gift-Cattle (कृकलास-रूपे नृगोपाख्यानम्)
प्रतिश्रयप्रदानाच्च सो$पि स्वर्गे महीयते । पृथ्वीनाथ! जो विद्वान् गृहदान करता है, वह भी उसके पुण्यसे इन्द्रके साथ आनन्दपूर्वक निवास करता और स्वर्गलोकमें सम्मानित होता है
pratiśrayapradānāc ca so 'pi svarge mahīyate | pṛthvīnātha! yo vidvān gṛhadānaṃ karoti, sa api tasya puṇyena indrasaṃga ānandapūrvakaṃ nivāsayati ca svargaloke sammānito bhavati |
قال بهيشما: وبمنح المأوى يُرفَع شأنه هو أيضًا في السماء. يا ربَّ الأرض! إن الحكيم الذي يهب مسكنًا عطيةً، بفضل تلك الحسنة، يقيم فرِحًا في العالم السماوي بصحبة إندرا ويُكرَّم هناك.
भीष्म उवाच
Offering shelter and donating a dwelling are praised as high forms of dāna; such generosity yields puṇya that leads to honor and joyful residence in heaven, even in Indra’s company.
In Bhīṣma’s instruction on dharma to the king (Yudhiṣṭhira), he continues describing the spiritual rewards of charitable acts, specifically the giving of shelter and the gift of a house.
