(Praise of the Gift of Food) | Annadāna-Praśaṃsā
etāni puruṣavyāghra sādhubhyo dehi nityadā | dānāni hi naraṃ pāpān mokṣayanti na saṃśayaḥ ||
Bhishma teaches that regular charity—specifically directed toward the virtuous and worthy recipients—has purifying power and is a reliable means for reducing and removing sin.
In Anushasana Parva, Bhishma, lying on the bed of arrows, instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma. Here he emphasizes the moral efficacy of giving the previously listed pure gifts to good people as part of righteous conduct.
