Mataṅga–Śakra Dialogue on Tapas, Status, and Moral Qualities
yathā hīnaṃ nabho 'rkeṇa bhūḥ śailaiḥ khaṃ ca vāyunā | tathā deśā diśaś caiva gaḍā-hīnā na saṃśayaḥ ||
The verse teaches that certain foundational supports (natural forces or emblematic instruments of power) are indispensable for splendor and order; likewise, the mace symbolizes strength and protection, without which regions and directions are considered diminished.
A Siddha delivers a didactic observation using a chain of similes, asserting—without doubt—that just as nature’s realms depend on key elements, so too the world’s quarters and lands are thought to depend on the presence of the mace as a sign and means of protective power.
