Educational Q&A

Sustained self-restraint (tapas) practiced as a vow is portrayed as generating extraordinary spiritual merit, culminating in expanded perception—symbolized here by ‘seeing the seven worlds,’ i.e., insight into the full cosmic hierarchy.

Bhishma is instructing on vows and their fruits. In this line he states the result of a particular long-term discipline: over the course of a year, the practitioner is said to gain vision of the seven realms.
