Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity
sudhārasakṛtāhāraḥ śrīmān sarvamanoharaḥ
True attractiveness is presented as the outward radiance of inner refinement—purity of sustenance and conduct (symbolized by ‘nectar-like nourishment’) joined with auspicious qualities (śrī). Ethical excellence is depicted as naturally pleasing and socially elevating.
Bhīṣma is praising a person’s qualities in a didactic context, using elevated epithets—‘nectar-essenced in sustenance,’ ‘illustrious,’ and ‘charming to all minds’—to highlight an exemplary character aligned with dharma.
