Upavāsa as Yajña-Equivalent Merit
Angiras Teaching
ṣaḍbhiḥ sa varṣair nṛpate sidhyate nātra saṃśayaḥ | agniṣṭomasya yajñasya phalaṃ prāpnoti mānavaḥ ||
(Agniṣṭoma).
The verse emphasizes certainty of spiritual efficacy: a prescribed discipline completed over six years yields the same merit as performing the Agniṣṭoma Soma-sacrifice, underscoring faith in dharmic practice and the assuredness of its fruit.
Aṅgiras addresses a king and states that a particular undertaking (implied from the surrounding discourse) is successfully completed in six years, and that the practitioner gains the fruit traditionally associated with the Agniṣṭoma yajña.
