ययाति-देवयानी-शर्मिष्ठा विवादः — Śukra’s Curse and the Disclosure of Lineage
ततस्तयोर्मिथस्तत्र विरोध: समजायत । देवयान्याश् राजेन्द्र शर्मिष्ठाया श्ष॒ तत्कृते,राजेन्द्र! उस समय वस्त्रोंकी अदला-बदलीको लेकर देवयानी और शर्मिष्ठा दोनोंमें वहाँ परस्पर बड़ा भारी विरोध खड़ा हो गया
tatastayor mithas tatra virodhaḥ samajāyata | devayānyāś ca rājendra śarmiṣṭhāyāś ca tatkṛte ||
ثم، أيها الملك، نشب هناك بينهما خصام شديد. وبسبب تلك المسألة دخلت ديفاياني وشارميشثا في نزاعٍ حادٍّ متبادل.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how attachment to status and wounded pride can escalate trivial disputes into serious hostility; ethical restraint and humility are implied safeguards against such breakdowns in conduct.
Vaiśampāyana tells Janamejaya that Devayānī and Śarmiṣṭhā, being together at that place, fell into a major mutual quarrel arising from a particular issue (contextually, the dispute connected with garments).
