Educational Q&A

The verse affirms the dharmic ideal that household life and many Vedic rites are properly fulfilled in partnership: a married man, together with his wife, is considered a complete gṛhastha, capable of sustaining ritual, social order, and prosperity.

Duṣyanta is speaking to emphasize the value and necessity of a wife within gṛhastha life—linking marriage with the ability to perform prescribed duties and with happiness and fortune—thereby framing marital partnership as central to dharma.
