virocanasya putro 'bhūd balir ekaḥ pratāpavān |
baleś ca prathitaḥ putro bāṇo nāma mahāsuraḥ ||
قال فايشَمبايانا: «كان لفيروتشَنا (Virocana) ابنٌ واحد—بَلي (Bali)، مشهورٌ ببأسه وبهائه. وابنُ بَلي المشهور هو بانا (Bāṇa)، وهو أسورا (Asura) عظيم.»
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores how power and reputation are narrated through lineage; it implicitly cautions that inherited might and fame are notable in history but do not automatically equate to righteousness (dharma).
Vaiśampāyana is listing a genealogical succession: Virocana’s only son is Bali, and Bali’s famous son is Bāṇa, identified as a great Asura.
