King Duḥṣanta’s Entry into the Forest Hunt
यः पुमानभवत् तत्र तं स राजर्षिसत्तम: | वसुर्वसुप्रदश्चक्रे सेनापतिमरिन्दम:,उनमें जो पुरुष था, उसे शत्रुओंका दमन करनेवाले धनदाता राजर्षिप्रवर वसुने अपना सेनापति बना लिया
yaḥ pumān abhavat tatra taṃ sa rājarṣisattamaḥ | vasur vasupradaś cakre senāpatim arindamaḥ ||
قال فايشَمبايانا: أمّا الذي كان ذكرًا منهما، فقد جعله فاسو (Vasu)—أشرف الملوك الحكماء، المشهور بسخائه وقهره للأعداء—قائدًا لجيشه.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A righteous ruler (rājarṣi) must discern competence and assign offices accordingly; generosity and strength are paired with responsible governance, especially in appointing military leadership for the protection of society.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that King Vasu, described as both generous (vasuprada) and a conqueror of enemies (arindama), selects the man among the group and appoints him as the army commander (senāpati).
