Officiants and Assembly at Janamejaya’s Serpent-Sacrifice

kāryaṃ ca mama na nyāyyaṃ pṛṣṭuṃ tvāṃ kāryam īdṛśam | kintu kārya-garīyastvāt tatas tvāham acūcudam, subhage |

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights ethical restraint in speech: some questions are socially improper, yet a higher duty or urgent necessity can justify carefully prompting disclosure for the sake of a greater good.

Takṣaka addresses a woman respectfully, saying that it would normally be improper for him to ask about such a private matter, but because the issue is important, he has pressed her to explain it.
