वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even before the content of their speech is given, the verse highlights how power can be steered through proximity and persuasion: Duryodhana and Karṇa intentionally approach the king to shape his decision. Ethically, it points to the danger of counsel motivated by self-interest and the vulnerability of a ruler who cannot (literally and figuratively) see clearly.
Vaiśampāyana tells Janamejaya that Duryodhana and Karṇa go to Dhṛtarāṣṭra and begin to speak. The verse functions as a transition into their forthcoming proposal or argument, marking a coordinated attempt by the Kaurava leaders to influence the king.
