Adhyāya 196: Droṇa’s Conciliatory Counsel and Karṇa’s Suspicion of Counsel (मन्त्र-नय-विवादः)
सैवमुक्ताब्रवीत् कन्या देवं वरदमी श्वरम् | पतिं सर्वगुणोपेतमिच्छामीति पुनः पुन:,उनके यों कहनेपर उस मुनि-कन्याने वरदायक महेश्वरसे बार-बार कहा--मैं सर्वगुणसम्पन्न पति चाहती हूँ”
saivam uktābravīt kanyā devaṁ varadam īśvaram | patiṁ sarvaguṇopetam icchāmīti punaḥ punaḥ ||
فلما خوطبتْ كذلك، أجابت الفتاةُ مهيشڤرا، واهبَ النِّعَم، مرارًا: «أبتغي زوجًا جامعًا لكلِّ الفضائل.»
व्यास उवाच
The verse underscores purposeful resolve and ethical aspiration: the maiden seeks not mere advantage but a spouse characterized by comprehensive virtue, presenting the ideal of choosing relationships grounded in guṇa (good qualities) and dharmic fitness.
After being addressed, the maiden repeatedly petitions Maheśvara, the boon-giving Lord, stating her wish for a husband endowed with all virtues—emphasizing persistence in prayer and clarity of intention.
