Vasiṣṭha as Purohita: Ascetic Mastery and Royal Counsel
तत्राजम्मुर्बकं द्रष्टर सस्त्रीवृद्धकुमारका: । ततस्ते विस्मिता: सर्वे कर्म दृष्टवातिमानुषम् | दैवतान्यर्चयांचक्रु: सर्व एव विशाम्पते,राजन! उन्होंने एकचक्रा नगरीमें जाकर नगरभरमें यह समाचार फैला दिया; फिर तो हजारों नगरनिवासी मनुष्य स्त्री, बच्चों और बूढ़ोंक साथ बकासुरको देखनेके लिये वहाँ आये। उस समय वह अमानुषिक कर्म देखकर सबको बड़ा आश्चर्य हुआ। जनमेजय! उन सभी लोगोंने देवताओंकी पूजा की
tatrājam murbakaṃ draṣṭuṃ sa-strī-vṛddha-kumārakāḥ | tataḥ te vismitāḥ sarve karma dṛṣṭvā ati-mānuṣam | daivatāny arcayāṃ cakruḥ sarva eva viśāṃpate ||
ثم اجتمع أهل المدينة هناك ليروا باكا صريعًا—وفيهم النساءُ والشيوخُ والأطفال. فلما شاهدوا ذلك الفعل الذي يفوق طاقة البشر، أُخذوا جميعًا بالدهشة. يا سيدَ الناس، شرعوا كلهم في عبادة الآلهة، معترفين بالمنة الإلهية التي أنقذتهم.
