Saṃvaraṇa’s Collapse, Ministerial Aid, and Vasiṣṭha’s Approach to Sūrya
yudhiṣṭhira uvāca: kim idaṃ sāhasaṃ tīkṣṇaṃ bhavatyā duṣkaraṃ kṛtam | parityāgaṃ hi putrasya na praśaṃsanti sādhavaḥ ||
The verse asserts a dharmic norm: virtuous people do not commend abandoning one’s child. Even when circumstances are difficult, ethical conduct is measured by compassion and responsibility toward dependents.
Yudhiṣṭhira addresses his mother, questioning her for having undertaken a harsh and difficult act—specifically, the abandonment of a son—and he frames his objection in terms of what the righteous approve.
