मय्येव प्रहरेहि त्वं न स्त्रियं हन्तुमरहसि । विशेषतो5नपकृते परेणापकृते सति,'“आ, मुझपर ही प्रहार कर। हिडिम्बा स्त्री है, इसे मारना उचित नहीं है--विशेषतः इस दशामें, जबकि इसने कोई अपराध नहीं किया है। तेरा अपराध तो दूसरेके द्वारा हुआ है

mayy eva praharehi tvaṁ na striyaṁ hantum arhasi | viśeṣato 'napakṛte pareṇāpakṛte sati ||

«اضربني أنا وحدي. لا يليق بك أن تقتل امرأة—وخاصة في هذه الحال، إذ لم تُسِئ إليك بشيء. إنما الجُرم الذي أصابك ارتكبه غيرُها.»
