Educational Q&A

The verse foregrounds dāna and atithi-satkara (charitable giving and hospitality) as socially valued acts; it also hints at how public acts of charity can serve as a socially acceptable occasion for gathering people, showing the ethical weight and social function of religious giving.

Vaiśampāyana narrates that Kuntī arranged a nighttime feeding of brāhmaṇas under the guise of charity, during which many women also attended; after eating and taking leave, they dispersed back to their homes, setting the scene for subsequent events.
