वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse links ethical living—following the established conduct of the virtuous (satāṃ vṛtti)—with auspicious outcomes and a dignified end, presenting Pāṇḍu’s life and departure as framed by dharmic standards.
Vaiśampāyana reports that King Pāṇḍu, after obtaining excellent sons, has died and gone to Pitṛloka; the narration specifies that this happened seventeen days prior to the current point in the story.
