अनुक्रमणिकाध्यायः (Anukramaṇikā Adhyāya) — Invocation, Narrator Frame, and Textual Scope
श्रुतवानसि मेधावी बुद्धिमान् प्राज्ञसम्मतः । न विग्रहे मम मतिर्न च प्रीये कुलक्षये
śrutavān asi medhāvī buddhimān prājña-sammataḥ | na vigrahe mama matir na ca prīye kula-kṣaye ||
إنك لَعَلِيمٌ، حادُّ الذهن، ذو فطنةٍ وعقل، معدودٌ في زمرة الحكماء. غير أنّ عزمي ليس على الخصام، ولا أجد لذّةً في هلاك السلالة وانقطاع النسب.
Even when one recognizes another’s learning and intelligence, one should not be driven toward hostility; the ethical priority is to avoid conflict and to prevent the ruin of the family line (kula-kṣaya), which implies social and moral breakdown.
A speaker addresses another person praised for learning and wisdom, but states a personal stance: the speaker’s intention is not to engage in strife and the speaker does not welcome outcomes that would destroy the family/lineage—signaling a preference for restraint and preservation over escalation.
