Adhyaya 72 — Puradāha: Rudra’s Cosmic Chariot, Pāśupata-Vrata, and Brahmā’s Shiva-Stuti
इति श्रुत्वा वचः सर्वं देवदेवस्य धीमतः विषादमगमन् सर्वे पशुत्वं प्रति शङ्किताः
iti śrutvā vacaḥ sarvaṃ devadevasya dhīmataḥ viṣādamagaman sarve paśutvaṃ prati śaṅkitāḥ
Suta Goswami (narrating the outcome of Shiva’s instruction within the episode)
It frames Linga-centered Shaiva practice as a remedy for paśutva (bonded existence): hearing Shiva’s teaching makes the Devas recognize bondage (pāśa) and seek the Pati (Shiva) for release through devotion, worship, and right knowledge.
Shiva is presented as Devadeva and dhīmān—the supreme Lord and the wise revealer of liberating doctrine—whose words expose the reality of bondage and point toward grace (anugraha) as the means beyond mere power or status.
The verse primarily highlights śravaṇa (hearing Shiva’s liberating instruction), which in Shaiva Siddhanta aligns with the path of knowledge and devotion supporting Pashupata-oriented discipline and Linga-puja as the means to overcome paśutva.
