FAQs

It frames cosmic stability as a sacred act: just as Bhūmi is re-established in her proper place, the devotee establishes the Liṅga in a consecrated seat (pīṭha) to align the microcosm with the divinely ordered cosmos under Pati (Śiva).

Though the action is performed by Janārdana as Varāha, the Linga Purana’s Shaiva lens reads such world-ordering as functioning through Śiva-tattva—the supreme Pati who grants śakti to sustain, restore, and regulate sṛṣṭi, thereby loosening pāśa (bondage) through dharma.

The verse suggests the principle of pratiṣṭhā (establishing): ritually, it echoes Liṅga-pratiṣṭhā and bhū-śuddhi (purification of the earth/seat); yogically, it mirrors stabilizing the mind (citta-sthāpanā) after it is “flooded” by vṛttis—central to Pāśupata-oriented discipline.
