Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vinata-putra, within an Ayurveda-style remedial section of the Garuda Purana)
Dosha: Vata
Concept: Disciplined regimen (niyama) and correct preparation (saṁskāra) yield tangible results; time, measure, and method matter.
Vedantic Theme: Kārya-kāraṇa (cause-effect) orderliness in embodied life; right means produce right outcomes.
Application: Prepare a kvātha by boiling harītakī, śṛṅgavera, devadāru, candana, and apāmārga-mūla in goat’s milk; administer with jayantī as indicated to relieve ūru-stambha within seven nights, under proper supervision.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.183.5 (ūru-stambha-hara compound); Garuda Purana 1.183.7 (vāta/snayu remedy)
This verse shows that the Garuda Purana also preserves practical healing knowledge—using specific herbs and preparation methods—alongside its teachings on dharma and the afterlife.
It does not describe the soul’s journey here; instead, it provides a bodily remedy, reflecting the text’s broader aim of guiding humans in both worldly well-being and spiritual life.
It highlights the classical principle of precise ingredients, medium (goat’s milk), and duration (seven nights); in modern practice, such formulations should be approached through qualified Ayurvedic guidance for safety and suitability.
