Lord Vishnu (in dialogue to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Austerity in treatment: unpleasant but purposeful measures to remove deep-seated disorder.
Vedantic Theme: Tapas-like endurance for a higher good; disciplined acceptance of corrective action.
Application: Apply paste of karañja, elā, and edagaja with gomūtra; perform karavīra udvartana after oil anointment as kuṣṭha-hara regimen.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bibhatsa
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.171.15, 1.171.17-18 (parallel kuṣṭha remedies; mineral-herbal and urine-ground pastes)
The verse distinguishes application methods—smearing a medicinal paste (pralepa) and therapeutic rubbing (udvartana)—showing a structured approach to treatment, not just ingredients.
It does not describe afterlife doctrine; it belongs to the health-remedy portion of the Garuda Purana, which supports dharmic living through bodily care.
Use it as textual guidance only: substances like karavīra can be toxic; any external or internal use should be supervised by a trained Ayurvedic physician.
