Kuṣṭha-bheda-lakṣaṇa-nidāna and Śvitra (Kilāsa) Prognosis
दोषस्याभीक्ष्णयोगेन दलनं स्याच्च मेदसि / नातिसंज्ञास्ति मज्जास्थिनेत्रवेगस्वरक्ष्यः
doṣasyābhīkṣṇayogena dalanaṃ syācca medasi / nātisaṃjñāsti majjāsthinetravegasvarakṣyaḥ
Lord Vishnu (narrating to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Chronic dosha association causes dhatu-kshaya: fat breakdown, marrow/bone wasting, sensory and vocal weakness without major loss of consciousness.
Vedantic Theme: Mind may remain relatively clear while body decays—supporting viveka and preparedness for impermanence.
Application: Monitor systemic decline markers (voice, vision, vigor) and dhatu depletion; institute nourishing and stabilizing measures and reduce aggravating factors.
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.164.31 (fat involvement as severe); Garuda Purana 1.164.33 (blood/flesh stage); Garuda Purana 1.164.35 (semen involvement and reproductive harm)
This verse links repeated doṣa aggravation with dhātu-kṣaya (wasting of fat, marrow, and bone), showing how imbalance manifests as measurable decline in strength, eyesight, and voice.
Indirectly: it emphasizes that embodied experience is shaped by conditions of the body; deterioration of tissues and vitality affects one’s capacity for dharma and preparation for death-related rites and reflection.
Treat recurring imbalances early—protect vitality (ojas) through disciplined diet, sleep, and conduct, and seek timely care to prevent progressive tissue wasting.
