Vidradhi–Gulma Nidāna
Causes and Signs of Abscess and Abdominal Mass
प्रायस्तु यत्तद्द्वन्द्वोत्था गुल्माः संसृष्टमैथुनाः / सर्वजस्तीव्ररुग्दाहः शीघ्रपाकी घनोन्नतः
prāyastu yattaddvandvotthā gulmāḥ saṃsṛṣṭamaithunāḥ / sarvajastīvrarugdāhaḥ śīghrapākī ghanonnataḥ
Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Etiology is often dual-doṣa and mixed nidāna; tri-doṣa gulma is severe with rapid progression.
Vedantic Theme: Viveka (discernment) through classification reduces confusion and guides right action (pravṛtti) in embodied life.
Application: Identify causative mixtures and doṣa involvement; tri-doṣa signs (tīvra-ruj, dāha, quick pāka, raised dense mass) warrant urgent care.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.160 (doṣa-bheda and nidāna of gulma)
The verse classifies gulma by causation—two-doṣa (dvandvottha) and all-doṣa (sarvaja/tridoṣaja)—and flags the tridoṣa type as more acute with severe pain, burning, and rapid ‘ripening’.
It does not narrate Yama’s path here; it teaches careful observation of suffering and impermanence, reinforcing the Purana’s broader ethic of timely right action (dharma) while embodied.
Severe abdominal pain with burning and fast-worsening swelling is urgent; the verse’s ‘rapid ripening’ suggests quick progression—seek prompt clinical care rather than self-treatment.
