Rambhā-Tṛtīyā Vrata: annual cycle of Devī worship, offerings, and dāna
umāmaheśvaraṃ pūjya pradadyācca guḍādikam / vastracchatrasuvarṇādyaiḥ rātrau ca kṛtajāgaraḥ / gītavādyairdadatpratargavādyaṃ sarvamānpuyāt
Lord Viṣṇu (in instruction to Garuḍa/Vainateya)
Concept: Purification through integrated worship (pūjā), vigil (jāgaraṇa), and multi-form charity (dāna of goods, arts, and cows).
Vedantic Theme: Niṣkāma-karma and bhakti: sustained offering of time, wealth, and skill reduces mala and strengthens sattva.
Application: Worship Umā-Maheśvara; offer guda and suitable naivedya; give practical gifts (clothes, umbrella, gold), keep night vigil with devotional music; at dawn donate cows/appropriate gifts as capacity allows.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: vira
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.120 (observance culminating in purification claim)
This verse presents dāna—such as jaggery, clothing, umbrella, gold, and cows—together with worship and night vigil as a means of inner and karmic purification.
It links purification (puyāt) to a combined practice: devotion (pūjā to Umā-Maheśvara), discipline (night-long vigil), and generosity (gifts like valuables, music/instruments, and cows).
Observe a devotional vigil when appropriate, and pair worship with sincere giving—supporting essentials (clothes), protection (umbrella), sustenance (food items), and charitable donations—done with ethical intent.
