Lord Vishnu (narrating ritual observances to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Devotion through specific floral upacāras and nourishing naivedya; honoring the ‘Mahārūpa’ (great-formed) aspect with abundance.
Vedantic Theme: Īśvara as the receiver of offerings; the devotee’s attitude (bhāva) sanctifies food and action.
Application: In Vaiśākha, worship Śambhu with damanaka and aśoka flowers; offer gudabhakta (sweetened rice with jaggery) and a श्रेष्ठ pūṭṭa preparation as naivedya.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: temple/household shrine
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.117 (Vaiśākha prescription in the monthly pūjā cycle)
This verse highlights Vaiśākha as a ritually potent month and prescribes specific flowers and a naivedya offering for Śiva, indicating that time, materials, and intention are all integral to effective pūjā.
Indirectly: by emphasizing disciplined worship and correct offerings, it points to dharmic practice as a support for spiritual merit (puṇya), which the Garuda Purana often links to post-death well-being and auspicious destiny.
If observing Vaiśākha disciplines, offer seasonal flowers (like aśoka where available) and a simple sattvic sweet offering (e.g., jaggery-sweetened rice) to Śiva with sincerity and cleanliness, focusing on regular devotion rather than extravagance.
