Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda)
Concept: When a defect is linked to adverse graha influence, abandon the causative association/practice and undertake guru-approved vrata.
Vedantic Theme: Karma and saṃskāra manifest through circumstances; correction requires śāstric discipline and right guidance.
Application: If patterns of harm are recognized (whether framed as ‘graha-doṣa’ or circumstance), stop the enabling behavior and adopt a structured corrective practice with a competent mentor.
Primary Rasa: bhayanaka
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.105 (vrata/prāyaścitta sequence)
This verse emphasizes that when a fault becomes evident, corrective discipline should be undertaken under a guru’s sanction, ensuring the remedy is dharmic and properly directed.
It advises renunciation of the causative association/practice and then prescribes a regulated vow (vrata) as a means of rectification.
Identify harmful influences or habits, discontinue them, and adopt a consistent corrective practice—ideally guided by a qualified teacher or tradition.
