Dhruva’s War with the Yakṣas and the Protection of the Holy Name
dhruve prayuktām asurais tāṁ māyām atidustarām niśamya tasya munayaḥ śam āśaṁsan samāgatāḥ
This verse shows that when powerful illusion arises, saintly sages advise śama—inner calm and restraint—indicating that steadiness and spiritual discipline are essential to not be conquered by māyā.
Because Dhruva was confronted with a nearly insurmountable demonic illusion, the sages arrived to guide him back to composure and self-mastery so he would not act under bewilderment.
When confusion, fear, or manipulation arises, pause and regain inner calm before reacting—choose restraint, clarity, and prayerful steadiness rather than impulsive action under “illusion.”
