Vibhīṣaṇa’s Arrival and the Debate on Refuge
इत्युक्त्वापरुषंवाक्यंरावणंरावणानुजः ।आजगाममुहूर्तेनयत्ररामस्सलक्ष्मणः ।।6.17.1।।
ity uktvā paruṣaṃ vākyaṃ rāvaṇaṃ rāvaṇānujaḥ |
ājagāma muhūrtena yatra rāmaḥ sa-lakṣmaṇaḥ ||
After speaking those harsh words to Rāvaṇa, his younger brother (Vibhīṣaṇa) quickly went to the place where Rāma stood with Lakṣmaṇa.
Vibheeshana, having addressed Ravana in harsh language, reached Rama and Lakshmana in a short while.
The verse supports the dharmic idea that one should seek the company of the righteous; when truth is rejected in one place, the seeker of satya turns toward dharma.
Vibhīṣaṇa leaves Rāvaṇa after a sharp exchange and goes to meet Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa.
Discernment (viveka): recognizing where righteousness truly stands and acting accordingly.
