Kaikeyī’s Protest
सन्ति मे कुशला वैद्यास्त्वभितुष्टाश्च सर्वशः।।।।सुखितां त्वां करिष्यन्ति व्याधिमाचक्ष्व भामिनी।
santi me kuśalā vaidyās tv abhituṣṭāś ca sarvaśaḥ | sukhitāṃ tvāṃ kariṣyanti vyādhim ācakṣva bhāminī ||
I have skilled physicians, fully trusted in every way; they will restore you to comfort. Tell me, O beloved lady, what ailment you have.
O lovely one! there are, to my best satisfaction, expert physicians in all branches (of medical science). They will restore your health. Tell me your ailment.
A king’s dharma includes protection and care; Daśaratha’s first impulse is to heal and support rather than accuse.
Seeing Kaikeyī’s condition, Daśaratha assumes she may be physically ill and offers the best medical aid.
