Kaikeyī’s Protest
प्रतीहारी त्वथोवाच सन्त्रस्ता सुकृताञ्जलिः।।।।देव देवी भृशं कृद्धा क्रोधागारमभिदृता।
pratīhārī tv athovāca santrastā sukṛtāñjaliḥ |
deva devī bhṛśaṃ kṛddhā krodhāgāram abhidrutā ||
Then the frightened door-keeper, with palms joined, said: “O King, the queen—furiously enraged—has rushed into the chamber of wrath.”
Thereafter, the frightened door-keeper with folded palms said O monarch! thequeen in a hot mood has rushed into the chamber of wrath.
It underscores maryādā in speech and service: even in fear, the attendant reports respectfully and truthfully, preserving duty within the royal household.
An attendant informs Daśaratha that Kaikeyī has withdrawn into the traditional ‘chamber of wrath,’ signaling a staged or serious grievance.
The door-keeper’s propriety and truthful reporting despite fear; it also shows the pressure created by Kaikeyī’s display of anger.
