Bhīma–Duryodhana Gadāyuddha Saṃkalpa
Resolve for the Mace Duel
स्वयमिष्टं च ते काम॑ वीर भूयो ददाम्यहम्
svayam iṣṭaṃ ca te kāmaṃ vīra bhūyo dadāmy aham
Yudhiṣṭhira said: “And, O hero, I grant you once again the very boon you yourself desire.”
युधिछिर उवाच
A righteous king’s word is meant to be dependable: Yudhiṣṭhira frames his response as a deliberate, repeated granting of what the other truly seeks, emphasizing ethical restraint and responsibility in giving.
In the midst of Shalya Parva’s tense wartime exchanges, Yudhiṣṭhira addresses a “hero” and formally reiterates a grant—confirming again the fulfillment of the other person’s chosen wish/boon.
